An Edwardian Where Good Things Came In Threes

Sunday April 8, 2007
JOHN and Joan van Loon bought their Edwardian house at 538 Glen Huntly Road, Elsternwick, 28 years ago, on a date they will always remember.
They were expecting their third child at the time, and as a result of an earlier subdivision into apartments, they ended up with three bathrooms, three kitchens and three lounges in their new home."We got rid of one kitchen completely, kept another one as a small kitchen," Mrs van Loon says. "The three bathrooms have been fantastic because it helped with rush hour when the kids were little and all tearing off to school."The couple adore the high ceilings, fireplaces and slate tiling of their home, which has since been restructured to accommodate four bedrooms. The added external entrances have allowed the couple to work from home periodically, he as a graphic designer, she as a children's book author. A glance at the property reveals its most fetching attribute: a brilliant contrast between a white exterior and lush greenery. "The house is set back, and we've got trees in the front garden. It's a lovely area to sit around and have lunch with friends," says Mrs van Loon.Buxton, Elsternwick, will auction the property on Saturday, April 28, quoting $950,000 upwards.
